Privacy, straight from the bottle

Analytics

We run our own small, first-party analytics on our own server. No cookies, no ad networks, no Google Analytics, nothing sold. We count page views, which tools get used, clicks and scroll depth, and where visitors came from (the referring site and any utm_ tags).

To count unique visitors without tracking you, we combine your IP address and browser type with a random value that changes every day and keep only a short one-way hash. We never store your IP address, and the daily value is deleted after two days, so we can't recognize you from one day to the next.

If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we record nothing at all.

What you type into tools

Calculators run in your browser. Manifests and listings you submit are processed to produce your result. Links you paste are recorded only as your source; we never open them.

Email

If you sign up for The Dairy Digest or Milk Delivery alerts, we keep your email, saved-search settings and the optional zip and radius you give for the Dairy Digest's Near-you section until you unsubscribe (one link in every email).

Brag Board and reader stories

If you send a find or story, we store what you wrote, the name you chose to show (if any), your optional email and a one-way hash of your connection for spam limits. A person reviews it before anything is published, and your email is never shown. Email us to have a post removed.

Milk Locator sales and items for sale

When you post a sale or list an item, we store what you entered, your photos, your email (optional for sales) and a one-way hash of your connection for spam limits. Photos are checked and stripped of location (EXIF/GPS) data before they're stored. A person reviews every post before it shows. Sale addresses and times are public. For items, only your town and zip are public; your email is never shown. Your private edit link is stored only as a one-way hash. Items come down after 30 days unless you renew them, and deleting a listing removes its photos and your email from it.

Messages to sellers

When you message a seller, we email your message to them through our email provider, Resend, from [email protected], with your email as the reply-to so they can answer you. The seller sees your name (if you give one), email and message. We don't keep the message itself, only a one-way hash of your email and connection with the time, to enforce rate limits. The seller's email stays private unless they reply to you.

Photos and corrections for sales

If you add a photo to a sale or send a correction, we store it with your optional email until it's reviewed. Approved photos show on the sale's page. Rejected photos are deleted.

Cream Points

If you tick "Earn Cream Points", we keep a record of your approved posts (what kind, the town and the points) tied to your email, and we create a free account for that email so you can sign in with an emailed link to see your points and use the free checks you earn. You show on the public leaderboard only if you turn it on, and only under the display name you pick, never your email. Turn it off anytime on your account page.

Cookies

No tracking or advertising cookies. We set only a few small, essential cookies: mg_ff counts your free Milk-o-Meter checks, mg_sess keeps you signed in to your account, and mg_co links a checkout to your browser for a day.

Payments and accounts

Payments and subscriptions are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. For subscribers we keep your email, your Stripe customer ID, your plan and how many checks you've used this month. For every account we keep the email and its extra-check balance. Sign-in links are emailed through our email provider, Resend, only when you ask for one.
